The new kids are in town. A couple of things have been established, they all like coffee (coffee is the bomb) and they have passion galore. But exactly who are they? Read on for a terrifying glimpse into the minds of Fresh Interface
The User Interface Developer
Its 1am in the morning, my desk is filled with coffee mugs and the glue between design and development is drying nicely. Earlier that week our wonderful designer handed me a splendid design with amazing eye candy. She snickered and pointed toward a rounded corner with a gradient that had to be a fluid width and height. A giggle came from the other side of the table from our developer, knowing the torture that lay ahead.
Some more laughter and lines such as 'Who snuck that feature in?', 'Usability could be improved over here' and 'Ahh, this bit is going to be very nice, I can make a sexy module for that' we had ironed things out and had a plan of attack.
A few things that rock my boat and I would like to share on this what we call the web are
- Usability
- Sexy Javascript
- Beautiful CSS
- Elegant Markup
- Shiny Mac applications (@Software Engineer below: Stuff runs on other macs too you know!)
- Drupal (how bloody good is Drupal!)
The Designer
As a designer, knowing how to code is a blessing and a curse. A blessing because I know how I can push the UI developers buttons and a curse because sometimes you think too much about code when you design. I like to walk around my computer several times waving paper sketches at it, then sizing it up, then attacking the design...
Likes & Dislikes
- Likes great design
- Liked rounded corners, then hated them now likes them again
- Likes useful and useable design
- Dislikes ho-hum design
- Loves - Drupal
- Loves - Chocolate and Coffee - can be bribed with either
The Software Engineer
Some say she is a idealist when it comes to coding standards; Others say she is the fairest lady in the seven seas. If you can solidify and visualise her every breath, you could probably see "10001010101000001111".
It's hard being a woman, let alone a software engineer without a dick. One can definitely observe her in her natural habitat in the middle of the night, coding and consuming PHP and Drupal for supper. Yes, she sounds half human / half robot. Or maybe she is? with former nicknames such as "the machine" or "bicentennial chick", you cannot expect less. If you want to get things done the right way, she the man woman.
Things she considers sexy
- Continuous Integration
- Drupal
- Agile Development
- Macbook Pro
- 37 Signals
- No Bullshit, just do it
- SVN

Stay tuned as we divert our passion in to developing our first web application. We will each be writing coffee inspired hints, tips and articles about what we know best.
